Our day-to-day operations to combat the problems our youth face with alcohol, drugs, bullying, and stress is a never ending battle. Our youth need to be educated at an early age in an attempt to head off future problems they may face. With a great response from the community and the support of our school systems, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. program was reinstated in 2012.
Since the reinstatement of the D.A.R.E. Program, Deputies have been working to teach the new D.A.R.E. “Keepin’ it REAL” curriculum to our youth at Circle, Flinthills, El Dorado, Remington, Douglass and Rose Hill. Since 2012, they have taught the D.A.R.E. Program and the importance of making good choices in life to approximately 800 youth each school year.
Several county businesses and civic organizations have joined arms with Butler County Sheriff’s Office in an effort to combat alcohol and drug abuse. Through the monetary support of several businesses and sponsors, our youth have been learning how to avoid alcohol and drug abuse and to make good decisions in life through the D.A.R.E. Program. Dear DARE Program Supporter,
The DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program started in Butler County in 1996. We at the Sheriff’s Office are committed to keeping this alive for the youth of our community.
The DARE Program is one that the Sheriff’s Office General Budget does not fund but through donations by the citizens and businesses of Butler County. Every year we have to generate the necessary funds to keep this vital program alive in our schools. The DARE curriculum is designed to reach youth between ten to fourteen. This is a vulnerable time for this age group as they change from youth to adolescent. On average, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office reaches about 900 students during the school year.
Every year at graduation, our students receive a DARE T-shirt.
On the back of that shirt is a list of sponsors who help fund our program. The shirts are throughout our community and are a great form of advertisement. For a donation of Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars or more, we will list your name or business name on the back of our shirts—what a fantastic show of support for our youth and commitment to our community.
The money raised stays in Butler County and is used for the DARE Program and other community programs, such as Neighborhood Watch.
